Encounters is a new section launching at London Art Fair 2023 and Pryle Behrman, curator and member of the Encounters Selection Committee, introduces some of its key themes in conversation with a panel of exhibiting artist who have experienced shifts in their careers and practices. The recent COVID-19 lockdowns prompted many of us to re-evaluate our priorities and several of the participating artists in Encounters have moved from another creative field into artmaking.

Putting our schedules to shame is hectic artist Damilola Odusote, who has unveiled a photography installation for Converse on top of creating original artwork for Made.com and being a dance teacher at Pineapple dance studios to boot.

Confidently Converse’s Made By You

Confidently Converse are ready to unveil Made by You, a campaign celebrating the individuality and experiences marked on all of our classic Chuck Taylor All Stars. Beginning with fresh Chucks, fans worldwide have offered their personal, lived-in pairs as sneaker portraits of the wearer and their creativity, ultimately showcasing the diversity of Chuck wearers.

An art installation featuring 2000 Polaroids of London’s Converse All Star Chuck Taylor fans was created in Shoreditch to celebrate Converse’s ‘Made By You’ campaign. The anamorphic installation created an outline of the London map from the polaroids which from every angle gives a different view. It was created by local artist Damilola Odusote, known for his sculptures which combine everyday objects with abstract techniques, with the support of students from Central Saint Martins.

In celebration of self-expression and the creativity created through the timeless Chuck Taylor, Converse today unveils their global “Made by You” campaign. For spring 2015, Converse searched the globe to collect beloved and distinctly personal Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers, each of which tells a story of transformation from blank canvas to self-portrait of their owner.

Converse has sold over one billion pairs of Chuck in nearly a century. To kick off the launch of "Made by you" in London, British artist Damilola Odusote presents thousands of Sneaker Portraits polaroids that were taken around London. Also featured are Odusote's own white Chucks, felted with a graphic illustration and the Converse star logo sketched in.
